The Critique of the Legend of Mango by Eun Ero Prelijera

I found this story lovely and heartbreaking. Well because, The father of  Perla, Mang Ado, wanted Perla to marry a rich guy which is Pedro. But she was in love with someone else. He's name is Jose and he's a young, strong farmer. They were engaged secretly because if  she told her father, she will be forced to marry Pedro which happened. When Pedro learned about this he committed suicide. And When Perla learned about this, her heart was shattered into pieces that she wanted to die and be with him in heaven which really happened. Perla left a letter for his father which is all about her love for Jose. His father dreamt about her saying that she forgive him and go to their garden tomorrow to see a tree with a gold heart-shaped fruit and that fruit was the Mango.

This story was written in the Philippines. I've learned here that love is full of sacrifices.

The Critique of the Legend of Maria Makiling by Cyrus Garcia

Maria Makiling is a mysterious fairy guarding mount makiling. No one knows how old is she Few people say she is old as the mountain, she still graceful with brown skin, deep black eyes and hair almost touching the ground. She appears after a storm, she strolls around the wood to straighten broken trunks, replace nests on the branches of trees, mend the wings of the butterflies and clear the streams of fallen twigs and log then all sighs of storm disappear, roses, flowers, orchids bloom birds chirp with glee, and deer run once again. Maria Makiling is known to have a good heart, she change her appearance to help elderly. She put gold coins to their pockets she invite tired hunters and offer them a warm meal. She test the kindness of a person by pretending to be an old lady begging for food or help. If the person is helpful she giving them blessings and if people refuse to help she chase them out of the mountain with sound of howling monster. People offers her white chicken to repay her kindness.
I found this story a great story, because it can teach us moral lessons. This story was written at Laguna. It has positive points though and that is the lesson I've learned in the story. We should't be abusive to people's kindness. We should always give a hand to those who need our help.

The Critique of the Legend of Mayon Volcano by Angel Arquilada

There were two lovers named, Daragang Magayon and Handiong, who came from rival tribes. Their love affair was forbid by their families so the both decided to run away together. When their families knew about this the decide to have a tribal war. When the lovers knew about this, they were hurt so they committed suicide together. They were buried separately. After several months, people from the tribe of Daragang Magayon noticed a mountain growing at her grave. This was called Bulkang Magayon and later on Bulkang Mayon.

My impression to the story is that love is a powerful force. Although not seen with the naked eye, it can be strongly felt by us humans. It is a heavenly feeling that we hold on to even though it sometimes hurt but we chose to continue to love anyway. The story is originated in the city of Daraga in Albay, Bicol. The implication of the legend to us locals is that the Mayon Volcano moves us with its extraordinary beauty

The Critique of the story "Why is the Sea Salty?" by Leigh Perez

To be honest, i found this story quite amusing. Many years ago, the sea tasted like ordinary rainwater. The people living in the islands knew about a friendly giant who kept mounds of salt in his cave. The people cross the ocean on their boats to reach the gentle giant's island, and that is how they were able to bring salt back to their villages, in order to prepare tastier meals. One time, they've ran out of salt and the villagers no longer enjoyed their tasteless meals and they wondered how they could get salt again. A child suggested that they should ask the giant to stretch out his legs over the ocean so that they could walk to his island instead. The kind giant agreed, and villagers with empty salt sacks walked along the giant's legs. Soon as the people reached the giant's island, he immediately withdrew his foot and scratched the itchy bites. Tiny ants affect the giant, so they idly chatted away, and walked rather slowly. Before the villagers could cross the ocean, the giant cried out and thrust his ant-bitten foot into the ocean and all the packed salt fell into the plain-water sea and melted. The giant saved the people from drowning, but no one was able to recover the spilled salt and that's why the sea is salty.

Actually we didn't know where and when this was written. But there's something I've learned about the story. We should be always be careful in order for us to be safe from harm and to live good.

The Critique of The Cycle of the Moon and the Sun by Jullana Fernandez

I found this story funny, stupendous and whimsical because the Moon and the Sun were married and they have children which is very unusual. One day, one of their child was burned and dead because of the Sun. The Moon forbid the Sun to touch their children because of what happen. One day, the Moon went outside and told the Sun not touch their children. One of their child was burned and dead again so the Sun and the Moon fought. The Sun threw a mud in the Moon's face that's why there are black marks in the Moon's face. The Sun and the Moon chase each other around and around. They have been chasing around each other ever since.

The place of origin of this story is from Mindanao and it was written around 1916. Well it has positive points though. It can make you laugh in some matter. And there's a lesson that we should learn. Always follow your parent's order because not following orders will lead you to unexpected accidents.
