The Critique of the Legend of Mayon Volcano by Angel Arquilada

There were two lovers named, Daragang Magayon and Handiong, who came from rival tribes. Their love affair was forbid by their families so the both decided to run away together. When their families knew about this the decide to have a tribal war. When the lovers knew about this, they were hurt so they committed suicide together. They were buried separately. After several months, people from the tribe of Daragang Magayon noticed a mountain growing at her grave. This was called Bulkang Magayon and later on Bulkang Mayon.

My impression to the story is that love is a powerful force. Although not seen with the naked eye, it can be strongly felt by us humans. It is a heavenly feeling that we hold on to even though it sometimes hurt but we chose to continue to love anyway. The story is originated in the city of Daraga in Albay, Bicol. The implication of the legend to us locals is that the Mayon Volcano moves us with its extraordinary beauty
